Har Ki Dun Trek

 

Har-ki-Dun, situated at an elevation of 3566 meters is surrounded by glittering peaks and dense forests. The forests are rich in wild life and are a veritable paradise for bird-watchers and nature lovers. This is good trek for all age groups and the valley is full of flora and fauna. One can spend time with herbs & shrubs for medicinal purpose.Also photography too has great area to snaps for variety of birds & nature.This is a holly place. Also it is a base of Swargarohini ht. 21000 ft. In our old granth (books) it is mentioned that Pandav went to Swarga (Heaven) through this mountain. This is a place where you can find Trees of Bhojpatra flower Bramhakamal. Swargarohini and Jaundar Glacier is at south-east of Har-ki-dun. Towards west you can see Bandar PunchDuryodhan is a God of few community here, you can find temple of Duryodhan. People survive on farming Rice, Rajma, and Charas. They use wood of Deodar tree for their house. You can find many people using Hukka for smoking. One can smell of pine while having Hukka. Also because of popularity of this area for trekking Portrays is another way to earn for locals here. They generally work under the Kedar.

Day 01: Delhi -Dehradun - Mussoorie (285 kms/8 -9 hrs) - Har Ki Dun Trek

 

Morning after breakfast drive to Dehradun. Arrive Dehradun Meet our representative and Drive to Mussoorie. Mussoorie is situated in between Shiwalik ranges in the Himalayan foothills. Which presents a spectacular and snow-clad peaks of Western- Garhwal Himalaya. transfer to the hotel. Evening free to explore the area. Dinner & overnight stay in hotel.

 

 

Day 02: Mussoorie – Sankari (160 km 7/8 hrs drive) - Taluka ( Trek 9 kms 4 hrs) - Har Ki Dun Trek

 

After early breakfast today we drive from Mussoorie to Sankari, which is our starting point of trek. The route from Mussoorie goes down to bank of Yamuna River and further to Natwar at Tons valley. Natwar which is an entrance of The Govind Wildlife Sanctuary. It is located in Purola tehsil of Uttarakashi district of Garhwal. Natwar, the entrance and starting point of the sanctuary, at a distance of 200 km from Dehradun. This wildlife sanctuary has a large number of mammal species: Snow leopard, Black bear, Brown bear, Musk deer, Bharal, Himalayan Thar. The endangered birds are Monal pheasant, Koklas pheasant, Western Tragopan, Himalayan Snow cock, Golden eagle, Bearded vulture, cuckoos Owls, bulbuls etc. Although there is a jeep road completed to the village of Taluka (elevation 1900 m.) we drive to a point just past Sankri lunch at Sankri and spend the late afternoon walking the last 9 km. to stretch our legs after the drive and to break in our hiking boots! We camp near Taluka amid the wild roses and the deodar trees. Overnight: Tent

 


Day 03: Taluka - Osla (2559 mtrs.) Trek 13 km, 5/6 hrs.
- Har Ki Dun Trek

 

Today we cross the Siyan Gad by bridge, further trail climbs to Dhatmir village. Later we cross the river towards right side of Ton river. The route is dotted with tea shops and local Dhabas. Osla has very dense forests of Walnut, Chestnut, Willows and Chinars. Enroute visit the Ghangore Village & local temple. There are fairly 42 well populated village in the area of sanctuary, some are at height of 2900 mtrs. The people are living a primitive life and still in many ways depend of forest for many of their basic needs. The villagers worship the Kauravas and Duryodhana of Mahabharata is the main deity. The temples have beautiful wood carvings. Overnight: Tent

 


Day 04: Osla - Har Ki dun (3506mtrs) trek 14 km, 5/6 hrs.
- Har Ki Dun Trek

 

Today after Osla we continue trek to Har Ki Dun. The trail and surroundings is extremely picturesque. Which is 5/6 hrs walk. Little steams crosses our path. As the trail climbs gradually through lush green terraced mountain fields and spotted with varied wild flowers. Har Ki dun has a back drop of snowy mountain peaks. Enroute we will have a wonderful view towards East of Ruinsara Gad: Kalanag peak (6387 mtrs), (Bandar punch 6316 mtrs), Swargarohini (6252 mtrs), Juandar glacier towards North and dense forests. It is one of the most picturesque spot in the Garhwal Hills. That's why it's called DEV BHOOMI (valley of Gods). Overnight: Tent

 


Day 05: Har-Ki-Dun
- Har Ki Dun Trek


The day is for rest/ acclimatization /exploration. On this day everyone does his own thing. One can go on an exploratory trek in the valley, capture some magnificent views on the camera, or just chill at the campsite. Overnight in tents.

 


Day 06: Har Ki Dun – Osla
- Har Ki Dun Trek

 

Morning after breakfast trek back to Osla with pack lunch. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.

 

 

Day 07: Osla – SANKARI (21 kms/3-4 hrs) – Dehradun (215 Kms, 7-8 hrs) - Har Ki Dun Trek

 

After early breakfast trek for about 6-7 hours to reach Sankari and from here drive back to Dehradun. Upon arrival at Dehradun transfer to hotel. Check into the hotel for dinner and overnight stay

 


Day 08: Dehradun - Delhi ( 250 kms/7 hrs)
- Har Ki Dun Trek

 

After breakfast drive to Delhi. Lunch enroute. On arrival at Delhi transfer to airport to catch your onwards flight.
